Þorrablót
After much deliberation, I have decided to take the Twelve Moons concept in a new direction this year. Last year was about time lapses that were sometimes based in the naming conventions of the Farmer's Almanac. In Twelve More Moons, I want to expand on the themes of the moon names and our human connection to a full moon. So this year I'm incorporating various cultural traditions from around the world into the series. I hope to still include cool time lapses of the moon too, but also add some other anthropocentric elements to the mix.
For the first part I spent some time exploring the Viking or Norse lunar calendar, which led me to discover Þorrablót. I would say that this would be a competent presentation if I was a middle school student, and certainly not authoritative in any sense. Perhaps you know about Þorrablót or have even participated in it. I'd be very interested to hear your experience.
Also, if you are reading this and have any traditional lunar practices, ceremonies or rituals, I'd be interested to hear about them for future moons.
Let me know what you think of this episode too! Do you miss seeing nothing but the lunar surface, or are you glad to get away from a boring ball zipping across the sky again?
Most of all thanks for watching!
